Carrier & Highly Nutritious Oils 

Carrier oils are the medium between your skin and essential oils. Not only does the skin absorb the oils better, the chances of essential oils irritating or drying the skin are greatly diminished.

Recommended Base Carrier Oils:

Almond, Sweet:

Helps relieve itching, soreness, helps with pimples and blackheads, very moisturizing, aphrodisiac oil.  Contains:  vitamins, minerals and is rich in protein. Light to Medium Weight; expeller-pressed. Shelf Life - 12 months

Apricot Kernel:

Good for all skins especially prematurely aged, sensitive, inflamed, & dry.  Good for red heads.  Frequently used in facial preparations.  Contains: vitamins A and B and minerals. Extremely fine, light seed oil.  Shelf Life - 12 months 2 years if refrigerated

Coconut: 

Soothing to the skin.  Good for stretch marks.  It is a rich emollient and is suitable for most skin types.  Makes a light-textured cream or ointment.  Expeller-pressed and solidifies at room temperature.  It melts at about 76° F.  Can cause allergic reactions in some people. Shelf Life - Indefinitely

Grapeseed:

Great for general skin care.  It absorbs into the skin quickly, getting the essential oils into the blood quickly.  Non-allergenic .  Soothing for sensitive, mature and infantile skin.  Used in massage and facial oils.  If prone to acne or blackheads, avoid on problem areas. Contains vitamins, minerals, and protein.  Fine texture.   Shelf Life - 12 months 

Jojoba:

Good for inflamed skin, psoriasis, eczema, acne, hair care, all skin types (no allergic reactions).  It is highly penetrative and never goes rancid.  It is similar to the moisturized our own body produces called sebum.  It has a SPF of 4.  Contains:  protein, minerals, a waxy substance that mimics collagen. Shelf Life - Indefinitely

Sesame:

It good for psoriasis, eczema, wrinkles, rheumatism, arthritis; sometimes called a cure-all oil.  It is a tonic for the whole body.  It can be put inside the mouth, over the eyelids for eyesight, and a sun protector with a SPF4. .  Lightweight oil rich in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins and lecithin.  In Ayurvedic medicine, daily sesame massage is practiced for its skin-aging prevention and balancing the dosha.  It has also been used to deter body lice. Shelf Life - 12 months

Sunflower:

Can be used to cut the richness of other oils.  Great for all skin types.  It is rich in lecithin and Vitamin E.  Medium weight with a slight detectable scent.  Shelf Life - 12 months

Highly Nutritious Mixers:

Argon:

Considered a very rich and nutritious oil high in Vitamin E and antioxidants. Contains sterols with anti-inflammatory properties.  Great for all skin types, especially skin prone to eczema, sensitive, inflamed and dry skin issues.  Shelf Life - 2+ years

Avocado:

Use as a 10% dilution.   Great for all skin types, especially dry, dehydrated, undernourished, and aging skin.  It is good for eczema and it can stimulate hair growth.  It is closest to the pH of the skin.   Contains:  vitamins, protein, lecithin, and fatty acids.  Very rich and heavy and has slight sunscreen effect.  Must be refrigerated Shelf Life - 12 months

Borage:

Use as a 10% dilution.  Good for PMS, MS, menopausal symptoms, heart disease, psoriasis, eczema, and prematurely aged skin.  It is an expensive oil and must be refrigerated.  It is high (about 20%) in GLA’s (Gamma Linolenic acid).  GLA’s are responsible for metabolic functions, healthy hair, nails and skin.  Great to ad in facial and special blends for problems areas.  Contains:  vitamins and minerals.  Use 10% dilution.  Use as an alternative to Evening Primrose oil.  Must be refrigerated.  Shelf Life - 6 months

Calendula Oil:

Excels healing and moisturizing and has been traditionally used in first aid ointments, lip salves and lotions for dry, damaged skin. 

Castor Oil:

A very rich, smooth oil used commercially in the manufacture of lipstick. Contains fatty acids and glycerin.  When blended with other oils, it is an excellent treatment for very dry skin.  It dried quickly when exposed to air.  It is useful in hair and nail treatments.  Shelf Life - 5 years

Cocoa Butter:

A wax obtained from the roasted cocoa bean by expeller-pressing.  This must be melted before using.  Has emollient qualities and absorbs quickly into the skin’s surface. Light, creamy consistency and is used in cream moisturizers.  Good for all skin types but avoid if one is prone to skin allergies.

Evening primrose:

Use as a 10% dilution. Good for PMS, MS, menopausal symptoms, heart disease, psoriasis, eczema, and prematurely aged skin.  It is antispasmodic and aids in weight loss.  Excellent antioxidant oil.  Add to other blends as it slows down their tendency to become rancid.  Very expensive.  Contains:  Very high in GLA’s, vitamins and minerals.  Good for all skin types.  Must be refrigerated.  Shelf Life - 6 months

Lanolin:

A wax and obtained from the wool of sheep.  It has a heavy, thick consistency and provides a protective moisturizing barrier.  Used in ointments and lip salves.  Not recommended for oily or acne prone skin.  Shelf life - up to 2 years

Rosehip Seed:

Expeller-pressed.  It is high in Vitamin C and very rejuvenating and healing.  Useful in scar repair, aging, and damaged tissue cells.  Use as a 10% dilution.  Must be refrigerated.  Shelf Life - 6 months.  

Vitamin E:

Great antioxidant for creams and oils.  Also very healing for burns, scrapes and hemorrhoids.  Use as a 2% dilution for help prevent other oils from oxidizing.  Can also use 1 400 IU capsule for every ounce of carrier oil.

Wheat germ:

Use as a 10% dilution.  It is good for eczema, psoriasis, and prematurely aged skin.  It strengthens weakened capillaries and is healing agent for scars, burns and stretch marks.  It is high in EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids). Used to preserve blends.  Contains:  vitamins A, D, and E, minerals, and protein.  Store in the refrigerator.  Do not use if one is allergic to wheat.  Shelf Life - 1 year
