The desert may seem quiet and sparse, but look closer and you’ll find a landscape rich with life, resilience, and hidden healing potential. Join community herbalist Sarah Sandhaus for an engaging, hands-on class exploring the beauty and benefits of desert plants.
Together, we’ll learn to recognize, respect, and celebrate the native and naturalized plants that thrive in the Sonoran desert. From soothing aloe to nourishing mesquite and prickly pear, these hardy plants offer time-tested wisdom for supporting vitality, hydration, immunity, and balance in even the driest seasons.
In this two-hour class, we’ll discuss traditional uses, modern applications, and sustainable harvesting practices, as well as simple ways to bring these desert allies into your kitchen and home apothecary. Participants will get to taste, touch, and experience several preparations and take home practical tips for crafting their own desert-inspired remedies.
In this class, you’ll learn:
How to identify and connect with key desert plants of the Southwest
Traditional and contemporary uses for wellness and recovery
Sustainable and ethical harvesting techniques
How to integrate local botanicals into daily routines for vitality and balance
Come discover how the desert’s most resilient plants can help you cultivate your own resilience—rooted in nature, balance, and appreciation for the Sonoran Desert.
